Dating the Curly Haired Girl #2
Be thee not a coward.
Cowardice is the least masculine of all personality flaws. And what the Curly Haired Girl needs most is a tough man who isn't insensitive, but also isn't a ninny.
Own up to your mistakes. Apologize when you fuck up. Stop fucking up. It's not that fucking hard.
To summarize thus far:
1. No assholes.
2. No alcoholics.
3. Ability to drive a fucking car.
4. No sissies.
I really don't think this is too much to ask for.

Yeah, girls say they want a tough man, but they're the first ones to start crying when their boyfriend splits someone's lip open for talking trash.
I was very careful not to say I wanted a macho man. That immediately leads to connotations of brute force. No no no. I want a guy who can stand up for himself, which is probably why I date ex-military so often.
Ok, so standing up for oneself is good...no problem there. But as someone who is NOT a tough guy (in the classic macho, bad boy mold) and is actually quite sensitive...could you give me some examples of when a sensitive guy crosses the line into sissidom?
I know chicks don't like 'soft' guys...that much has become clear to me…no matter what they say…but I also like to believe that you ladies want someone who...well...isn't just some big trophy dude who looks ‘hot’ in shades and a leather jacket...who's got a bit more going on in here (heart) and here (head) than some meathead. Am I wrong...or do I have to start being a lot more stupid, cocky and flippant to land me a nice girl (cause I really don't want to be!)
Help a guy out...=)
Well, Neil, the problem is that I can't speak for all girls. I can only speak to what I want and need. And what I prefer are men who are able to navigate the supremely fine line between masculine and macho, confident and arrogant, sensitive and sissy, drunken reveler and alcoholic, etc.
Luckily I tend to naturally gravitate towards men like this, I don't necessarily seek them out. I just happen to be able to attract what I want. Maybe because I'm comfortable being me?
For the record, like most of my vocal female readers, I'm also not afraid to make the first move. I go after what I want. But I know all women, to the frustration of you men, are NOT like this. So when I give advice, it's only for what applies to me directly.
I just want me a big, dumb, thick-necked doofus--who buys me things. Yessiree.
(tongue firmly in cheek)
Actually, you have reminded me of a blog I did five years ago that's sort of along the same lines. I just re-posted it, for your entertainment...
my ex-girlfriend years ago defined it as "having one's shit together".
Twenty years later and I think I'm getting close.
cheers gpg...clearly you can't speak for all women, but I think you said it best by saying 'navigating the supremely fine line'...
Clearly, walking the tightrope just isn't my thing...yet.
Maybe it is as simple as 'having ones shit together'? That could be a while...
I have yet to meet a man who totally has his shit together. We're all works in progress.
